Difference between Single Origin & Coffee Blends

Whether you're a coffee connoisseur or not, it's important to know the difference between single origin coffee and coffee blends. When you hear the names, the description you have in your mind likely isn't far off.

Read on to learn more about the differences in beans!

Single origin coffees

Single origin coffees are labelled as such since they're harvested from the same geographical region. Think Colombian coffee! Those beans are single origin because they all come from the same place.

In addition, single origin coffees are typically a little more expensive than blended coffee for a few reasons. First and foremost if a specific kind of origin coffee comes from a place that only has a short growing season, it means that the beans might be in short supply. For this reason, the price can go up. In addition, the taste is more nuanced because of the specific location.

Coffee blends

Coffee blends are also similar to what their name insinuates - these blends use a variety of different beans. This means that there likely aren't any issues with harvesting since the beans can come from many locations. That means that they can be harvested year round.

Did you know that it's not uncommon for a coffee blend to feature beans from up to 10 locations? However, most companies typically create their coffee blends using beans from two to three different locations.
