Benefits of MCT in your Coffee & Tea

In the past few years, MCT has become the major wellness trend, due to its flexibility in foods, and hot or cold drinks. In addition, it’s Paleo and Keto friendly and considered a great substitute to creamers if bought in powder forms or even a great addition to any meal.

Here’s what you need to know about MCT before incorporating it into your lifestyle.

What is MCT?

“MCTs” are medium-chain triglycerides, which are fatty acids that naturally occur in all kinds of substances. If you ever consume coconut oil, cheese, whole milk, full-fat yogurt or palm oil? Then you've tried and experienced a small dose of MCTs.

Roughly 62% of fatty acids are found in coconut oil where MCT is extracted by processing coconut and palm kernel oils, to produce MCT. There are four different types of MCT that exist where caprylic and capric acid is the most commonly used.

Easily digested, MCT is naturally tasteless but can be purchased with flavours in powder and liquid form.

Here are a few science-backed benefits you can get from adding MCT to your diet.

The Benefits

MCT has tons of benefits, though it's most frequently used to:

  • Maintain a healthy weight
  • Boost energy and increases endurance
  • Combat concentration and improves memory
  • Balance hormones and improves mood
  • Improve sugar and cholesterol levels

If you don't currently take MCT regularly, you should start with a teaspoon and, gradually work up to a tablespoon over the course of a week or two. So whether you're drinking a delicious Decaf Hazelnut Vanilla Coffee, or your favourite Canadian Maple, just a teaspoon of MCT oil can change your entire day!
